Career in Club

Rachid Ghezzal, born on may 9th, 1992 in Décines-Charpieu, France, is an international soccer player. His parents are originally from Algeria and today, he is evolving at the midfield position at the Fiorentina AC.

Rachid Ghezzal starts his carrer with the youngster team of Vaulx-en-Velin. He joins the training center of the Olympique Lyonnais at the age 12.

He plays his first professional game with the colors of OL on october 4th, 2012, for a meeting of Ligue Europa facing the Israeli club of Kiryat Shmona. During the game, he plays 62 minutes and is forced out of the game through injury.

Rachid Ghezzal plays his first game in league 1 on october 21st, same year. The game is facing Stade Brestois He replaces Bafétimbi Gomis at the 77 minutes of the game. On december 11, he is established and makes his league debut in a match facing FC Sochaux.

January 2013, after the departure of Michel Bastos, Rachid Ghezzal sits alone at the position of left wing in the team. February the 3rd, 2013, against Ajaccio, he shoots his first decisive pass of the championship. On the 24th, during the 26e day of the League 1, Ghezzal shoots his first professional Goal against Lorient, contributing to the victory of the Olympique lyonnais (3-1).

Following the recruitment of Gaël Danic, but especially following a back injury which keeps him almost a year away from the fields, Rachid Ghezzal will not make any appearance during the season 2013/2014.

Not much used by Hubert Fournier during the first phase of 2015-2016, Rachid Ghezzal will benefit from the confidence of the new trainer, Bruno Génésio arrived during the winter for the second half of the season. Bruno Génésion puts Rachid Ghezzal back at the right wing of the leading edge and plays a « false-feet » (left feeted playing on the right side). Because of Nabil Fékir's injury and the poor physical conditions of Mathieu Valbuena at the time, Ghezzal gets several tenures and compose with Maxwell Cornet and Alexandre Lacazette, a brilliant attacking trio. For the inauguration of the Stade des Lumières on january 9th 2016, he scores one goal against Troyes (4-1). He also scores the second goal of the 2-0 in the very first derby of the history at the Olympic de Lyonnais parc on october 2, 2016.

On august 7, 2017, he signed up for four years with AS Monaco after being left free by the OL, a month earlier. In his first match against Metz, he provides the pass to Radamel Falcao, allowing the latter score the only goal of the match On september 22nd 2017, he scores his first goal with the AS Monaco colors.

On august 5, 2018, Rachid signs at the Leicester City club for four years and for the amount.

After a season at the foxes of Leicester City, Rachid Ghezzal is loaned with buying option at the italian club of Fiorentina.

At the end of the 2020 season, Rachid Ghezzal leaves A.C. Fiorentina and comes back to his club, Leicester F.C. in july 2020.

In october 2020, Rachid Ghezzal joins the turkish club of Beşiktaş JK in Istanbul for one season. This is a loan without any buying option at the end of the season.

Beşiktaş JK is one of the three major football clubs in Turkey with Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe. Beşiktaş JK has won 15 champions titles and 9 turkish cups.

Career with the national team of Algeria

Having the double nationality : French and Algerian, Rachid Ghezzal express his vows to represent his country of origin : Algeria on march 2013,. Few months later, he takes part of the French tournament of Toulon. He takes his final decision to pick Algeria over France, like his borhter Abdelkader Ghezzal.

Early march, he figures in Christian Gourcuff's players list for the national team of Algeria and for the internship happening in Doha, march 2015.

On march 26, 2015, he honours his first selection against Qatar.

On march 25, 2016, he scores his first goal in national selection against Ethiopia.

Charitable Actions

On december 9, 2018, Rachid Ghezzal joined forces with Phil Ropy and appears on one of the digital cards of philanthropie Sport dans la Ville. The philanthropie stage a French non-for-profit organization helping people of deprived neighbourhoods via sports programs and professional trainings. This patnership is a tribute to the organization he was part of when he was 12 years old. During a meeting organized with the young members of Sport dans la ville, Rachid tells the story of how the time spent with Sport dans la Ville has helped him to achieve his professional career and held the status of professional soccer player.
